Leyton Orient kicked off their Carabao Cup campaign with the visit of Oxford United to Brisbane Road, as the O's looked to carry the momentum of last weekend's impressive pre-season victory over Royal Antwerp into competitive action.
The U's arrived in E10 following relegation from the Championship and beginning a new era under Arsenal legend Aaron Ramsey. A multiple FA Cup winner during his playing days and an integral part of the Wales side that reached the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Ramsey was looking for a winning start to his professional managerial career.
For Orient, meanwhile, life after Dom Ballard had officially begun. Last season's leading scorer completed a club-record move to Championship side Bristol City on Tuesday evening, but Orient moved quickly to secure his replacement. Jaze Kabia arrived from Grimsby Town for a club-record fee on Friday after scoring 24 goals in 57 appearances last season. Kabia began on the bench, leaving Theo Archibald to lead the line once again following his impressive performance against Antwerp.
