Wretched vibes after capitulating against Burton Albion.

Awayday Report: Enshittification and a Miserable Defeat to Burton Albion

A sodden journey to Burton, a snubbed press pass, dying heritage and the unraveling of Richie Wellens' defensive gameplan -- all that stood between me and a miserable afternoon was 90 minutes of Leyton Orient football.

I kissed my wife and hugged my kids tight as I left home in the grey early-morning chill. It would be a while before I saw them again.

I was trekking through wind and rain to East Staffordshire to support Leyton Orient in their battle against Burton Albion. Someone had to.

Our Os have been playing a purposely ugly brand of football, with manager Richie Wellens opting for a formation with three centre-backs and sacrificing some offensive firepower to stop giving up so many goals.

It has been difficult to watch, but there has been some modest success with the safeguarding strategy. There was a goalless draw at Bradford City, a welcome though not entirely convincing 2-0 win against an equally punchless Blackpool, and then a loss to a Reading side whose goal came largely against the run of play. That counts as progress.
