Life on the Road: Going for a Burton

Burton-upon-Trent – the place
Burton is a very agreeable red-brick market town in East Staffordshire with a population of 76,000. With an interesting industrial, political and social heritage and chock full of great pubs, it’s officially bestowed with the title of GOOD AWAY TRIP – at least off the pitch.
Burton has some natural advantages that make it especially attractive to the average football supporter. It’s the brewing capital of Britain, due to its gypsum-rich water, something that the Benedictine monks at Burton Abbey cottoned onto in the 11th century when they started brewing their own ale.
