Last season was one we’d all probably prefer to banish from our minds. It was also, as it turned out, something of a perfect storm, where a number of on- and off-the-pitch issues converged to make it a season of instability and disappointment, after four seasons of stability and achievement. Maybe even the most seasoned among us had fallen for the halcyon vibes, making last season a huge jolt back to a reality we’ve known only too well over the years. Dare I say it was all rather ‘little Leyton Orient’.
We were almost relegated and the team woefully underperformed, against a backdrop of goings-on behind the scenes with key staff and players leaving and the (white) elephant in the room of a potential new stadium, with some changed goal posts coming into play on the detail of this.
